Who we are
We are a group of students who are passionate about promoting, protecting, and producing projects for all three facets of sustainability: economic, social, and environmental. Our goal is simply to ensure that Iowa State University continues to be the best it can be for all future students to come through education opportunities and projects.
What we do
We are in charge of allocating the Green Initiatives Fund ($30,000) to different projects that promote all three aspects of sustainability. Our committee works on various projects for this fund, but we also work with many student organizations to promote and give money to their projects. We also host many events throughout the year, such as tabling, campus clean-ups, and conferences.
Our Projects
- Water Bottle Filling Stations - As of Spring 2025, we are implementing 11 new water bottle filling stations across campus to promote reusable bottles, which are set to be fully installed by the fall semester. Our members found and tested every single water fountain and filling station on campus, analyzing the best places to install new filling stations.
- Events - As a committee, we not only host but also partake in various events across campus and in the city of Ames. One of the events we hosted in the Fall of 2025 is a Greek Life Clean-Up, where we partnered with Greek Life to collect trash from Homecoming events the previous week.
- Native Plants - As a committee, we are working on implementing more native plants on campus, as well as raising awareness of the species already here.
- Dining - We are working with ISU Dining to implement more sustainable food options, as well as compostable cutlery. This year, we have implemented compostable cutlery options to multiple dining locations across campus, with means to implement more in the coming years.
- Recycling - We work with Steve Khotz in order to better implement recycling opportunities for students on campus. This year we helped to implement QR codes on all solar trash compactors for students to report if they are full or in need of repair.
- Bike Maintenance Stations - We have upgraded the Bike Maintenance Stations in front of the Memorial Union and outside of the Hub. We are also installing a new station at the dorms at Towers.
