Hi y'all,
My name is Hayat Sumael, and I am a Senator for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I am originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, double majoring in Criminal Justice and Political Science. Starting with Legislative Ambassadors and then becoming a UROC Senator. I have been involved with Student Government since my Freshman year, and it has been one of the best decisions I have made since starting at Iowa State. I spend most of my in the Student Government Office and I am always available to answer questions. On my free time I mostly listen to Crime Junkie Podcast(which if you have not, I 100% recommend you do ASAP), I read, watch Netflix, or am somewhere outside, because I do not like being inside for too long. I am excited to serve the constituents of LAS and to see what this upcoming year has in store for Student Government. I am always down to give out some good books, shows, and podcasts recommendations, so just stop on by the Student Government Office!
Some of my goals this year as a LAS Senator are:
- Reform the LAS Council and make sure that we take the steps to create a working and stable Council
-Making sure our constituents know where resources are specifically geared towards them
-Making sure to voice the opinions of students during Senate so everyone is included
-To keep pushing for an inclusive and diverse environment on our campus
