Hi, my name is Alex D. Klein and I'll be one of the representatives of IRHA in Student Senate this year! I've got a pretty interesting history in politics already, having run for mayor of my hometown of Mason City in 2017. I lost that race, but it taught me a lot of what it means to be an advocate and an activist. I currently help to plan Pride events in my home town, read books about activists and politicians, and have given a TEDxISU talk about why more young people need to run for office. I'm always open to talk about politics, history, philosophy, LGBTQ+ issues, or any geeky topic that may happen to come up. If you got an issue and you need somebody to take it seriously and/or talk about it, please feel free to contact me!
I want to make Iowa State as inclusive and hospitable as possible to all our students. I have a background as both an LGBTQ+ student and as a low-income student, and so I know how scary it can be coming to a massive school like this. I want to hear from as many students as possible about the issues that impact them directly, and I want to work towards finding solutions to those problems.
