All registered and enrolled Iowa State students, including graduate and international students, are represented on the Student Government Senate based on where they live and what they study.

Students attending Iowa State University pay a Student Activity Fee of $49.00 per semester. Students elected to the Student Government Senate are tasked with allocating almost $3 million dollars in revenue generated annually by the Student Activity Fee to student organizations and services across campus. Student Engagement, Student Counseling Services, Committee on Lectures, Student Alumni Leadership Council, International Students and Scholars, Student Legal Services, the Iowa State Daily, and the Student Union Board are all funded in part by Student Government. Senators also represent Iowa State students on boards and committees across campus and provide valuable input in numerous decision-making processes.

Student Government needs a diverse set of individuals and viewpoints to properly represent the interests of the ISU student body and a group who can advocate for the changes students want to see on campus. Make sure your voice is heard!

Academic Constituency Senate Candidates

Senate seats are apportioned to each academic college according to the proportion of students enrolled in that college. The general election ballot will prompt voters to select their academic college in order to vote for their academic representatives. If you have more than one area of study, you should select your primary major's academic college. Graduate and professional students should select either the Graduate College or the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The 2025-2026 Senate has two seats for senators to represent the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The associated constituency council is the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council.

Alexander Bessie

Picture of smiling man with medium length brown hair in a black shirt.

Hello! My name is Alexander Bessie, and I am an upcoming Junior in Chemical Engineering running to become an Engineering Senator for Student Government here at ISU.

I am fit for this position because I have a multitude of experiences that have prepared me for this role.

First, I have worked as part of residence-hall government since my freshman year. Currently, I am the Director of Finance for Friley Hall’s Senate. This role requires me to be a student representative at Inter-Residence Hall Association (IRHA) parliamentary meetings and to be familiar with general parliamentary procedures. Additionally, since this position has allowed me to manage over $15,000 in student funds, I have a unique perspective on the financial needs organizations have here on campus. Due to this, I will be readily able to support the engineering students I would represent and their organizations in the finance committee for student government.

Secondly, I have worked as a chemistry tutor since my freshman year at ISU. This position has both allowed me to give back to students on campus to better their academic abilities. It has also allowed me to better understand the educational needs of a variety of students. From this experience, I have the passion to speak for those who do not have the confidence to speak for their own educational needs. I hope to help improve and inspire further initiatives to improve our education here at ISU.

If elected, I guarantee that I will do my best to speak for and honor the students I represent.

Thank you, Alexander Bessie

Ben Dauman

Photo of man with short blonde hair wearing gray suit and purple tie

Hi Everyone,

I’m Ben Dauman, a mechanical engineering student here at ISU, and I am running to become a senator for the College of Engineering. I believe I have a multitude of experiences that make me a good candidate for this seat. Let me briefly explain why.

On campus, I am a part of Emerging Leaders in Engineering, the Linden Hall Council, and, when I have time, my favorite: Table Tennis Club. On the Hall Council, I help make decisions and run events for the betterment of the hall. In this capacity, I helped run the Linden Hall Olympics, which was a very successful event that residents seemed to enjoy. Outside of campus, I am an Eagle Scout. For my project, I am proud to have led a team of volunteers to build a desperately needed storage space for the Special Education department at my school.

I would like to essentially be a slate for the students of the College of Engineering. I want to be able to address the issues that the students care about. If you want to make CyRide better, then so do I.

These are the reasons why I am an engineer: to help people and improve my community. If you give me the chance to be in the senate, I will do my best to also help you, the engineering students of ISU.

Thank you for your consideration, Ben Dauman

I've been a strong advocate for several organizations during my time at Iowa State, and I will make sure the Engineering College has an impactful voice in any Student Government decision.

I am passionate about making every student's experience positive whether that means bettering accessibility across campus, strengthening downtown engagement, or any other concerns my constituents bring to my attention. As a LAS Senator I intend to continue to ensure your voices are not only heard but you see actions done to better your experience and address any concerns brought my way.

Eric Gerdes

Hey Cyclones, my name is Eric Gerdes, and I am a senior majoring in communication studies and minoring in journalism. I am the current Director of Outreach for the Iowa State Student Government, and I am proud to announce that I am running for one of the three LAS senator seats for the next term! My role as Director of Outreach has given me the opportunity to have conversations with so many students about what they want to see changed or improved on campus. Through my experience on this amazing team, I have discovered that there really is no other student-led organization that does more to improve the lives of students here at Iowa State.

After spending time on the sidelines at Student Government Senate meetings, I've come to realize that I want to play an active role — and cast a vote — in the decisions that shape the student experience. I want to help fund student organizations and promote programs that make campus life better.

As Director of Outreach, I've had the privilege of promoting Student Government for the students, but now I want to promote the students through Student Government!

Mkpe Kekung

Photo of man with short dark hair in a gray shirt

My name is Mkpe Kekung, and I am a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University. Interestingly, I have had the unique experience of being a graduate student at five international universities across three continents! This journey has provided me with the invaluable opportunity to engage with diverse groups of students, build meaningful connections, and adapt to new environments. Through these experiences, I have gained a deep understanding of the challenges that graduate students face, particularly the need to find their place within the broader student community and to have their voices heard. I am eager to bring this diverse perspective to my role as a Graduate Student Senator in the ISU Student Government.

As a graduate student senator, I will ensure to strengthen the link between the Graduate/Professional Student Senate (GPSS) and the Student Government. I am committed to representing the voices of all graduate students with integrity, transparency, and dedication. Noah Kammeyer

Photo of man with short blonde hair and glasses in a plaid shirt

My name is Noah Kammeyer, I'm a 2nd-year student studying Political Science and have really enjoyed my time this past year representing on-campus students in Student Government. During my time as a Residence Hall Senator this year, I got to speak to almost every Hall Council and addressed their concerns and interests as it pertains to Student Government. For many, living on-campus can make it easy to not fully know everything going on, especially if it's your first year at Iowa State. However, I want to continue to bridge that gap by continuing to partner with organizations like First-Year Council and by doing more to engage student government with IRHA and other organizations connected to Residence Halls. In my freshman year, I was the Hall Council President of Birch-Welch-Roberts, and I always took into consideration how I felt in that role, with how I wanted to connect with on-campus students and their desires. With that in mind, I'm running again to be re-elected to my seat as a Residence Hall Senator, and as the campaign season goes on, I hope to meet with people and continue to get ideas on how to improve the lives of students living on-campus!

The 2025-2026 Senate has ten seats for senators to represent the off-campus residency area. These senators represent students who do not live in any of the other listed residency areas. The associated constituency council is the United Residents of Off-Campus (UROC).

Hello, I’m Srishti Nandal, a sophomore majoring in data science with a minor in statistics, and I’m running to be United Residence Off-Campus (UROC) Senator! As an Off-Campus Senator and member of the Inclusive Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee, I have been committed to advocating for students, increasing campus accessibility, and amplifying underrepresented voices. I believe in strengthening the connection between off-campus students and university resources and advocating for inclusivity on campus. I’m passionate about making Iowa State a place where every student feels represented and supported. I’d love to hear your concerns and ideas for improving our student experience.

Lauren Neal

Photo of woman with brown shoulder length hair in a white shirt and dark blazer.

This year, I have had the privilege of serving as a UROC Senator and, through this position, have worked to make sure off-campus students’ voices are heard when and where decisions are being made. I have also had the opportunity to speak with many off-campus students about their experiences at Iowa State and important improvements they want to see made.

As a fellow off-campus student, I understand just how easy it is to feel disconnected from campus life, which is why I am dedicating my time to working to better connect off-campus students to on-campus resources and events, as well as with the greater Ames community.

If elected, I plan to continue to work with my fellow senators to increase access to university resources and support for off-campus students to facilitate better student experiences.

Jake Snyder

I hope to receive your vote in this coming election!

Lauren Vierregger

Photo of woman with long blonde hair in a red and gold bucket hat and blue overalls

My name is Lauren Vierregger, a sophomore in Agronomy and Horticulture here at Iowa State, and I am running for reelection as the Frederiksen Court Senator in the Iowa State Student Government. As the current Frederiksen Court Senator and having two years of experience within Student Government, I have had the opportunity and privilege to work with my fellow senators and directors to enact change here on campus. I am hoping to continue to enact change this third year and continue to work with my peers and the Frederiksen Court Community Council to better serve my residents.

One issue that I am hoping to continue to resolve during my second term as Frederiksen Court Senator would be a better connection of Frederiksen Court to campus. Due to the location and accessibility of the apartments, there is a tendency for students to forget that Frederiksen Court is a prominent community here on campus, and due to past lack of representation in student government, many problems have gone unnoticed. I hope to continue to bring attention to our goals, issues, and events we have by being active in my duties and bridging my constituency with Student Government.

I have enjoyed every minute of being able to represent students in my position as a past IRHA senator and now as the Frederiksen Court Senator and hope to continue to serve the Iowa State campus once more!
