2020 Election Timeline

The 2020 Election Timeline has been finalized and approved by the Student Government Senate and Election Commission. Each dates are provided below. Informative Sessions are sessions required for any individual interested in running in a Student Government Election for office as a senatorial or executive slate.

Senatorial Informative Sessions

  • Tuesday, January 21st 5pm — Memorial Union RM 3512
  • Thursday, January 23rd 6pm — Memorial Union RM 3512
  • Monday, January 27th 6pm — Memorial Union RM 3512
  • Wednesday January 29th — 12pm Memorial Union RM 3512
 

Executive Informative Sessions

  • Thursday, January 23rd — 6pm Memorial Union Gold RM
 

Statement of Intent forms: A statement of intent form is an agreement between the Election Commission and candidate interested in running for a particular office. The statement of intent forms can be turned in at the Student Government Elections Box found in the Student Government office.

  • Executive Statement of Intent forms due: January 17th 5pm
  • Senatorial Statement of Intent forms due: February 14th 5pm
 

Petitioning is only required for executive slates and referendums or student initiatives. Petitioning deadlines are as following:

  • Petitioning deadline: February 17th 5pm
 

Campaigns may start campaigning or advocating for themselves on February 1st 7:00am. Any campaigning before this start date is considered a violation under Election Law and is subject to a hearing and penalty.

 

The executive debates are required for all slates running on the ballot. These debates will be live-streamed on the Student Government Youtube and will take audience questions from a online Google form. Senatorial debates may be created upon the constituent councils request.

 

  • Vice Presidential Debate: Tuesday February 11th — 6pm Memorial Union Cardinal RM
  • Presidential Debate: Tuesday February 25th — 7pm Memorial Union Campanile RM
 

The General Election date will be held on March 3rd 12:00am to Wednesday 11:59pm. The ballot is hosted on the vote.iastate.edu website.

  • Preliminary Election Results will be held on Thursday March 5th — RM TBA
 

Contestations for the Elections are March 5th and 6th

 

Final Expenses and Revenue disclosures for senatorial and executive candidates are Friday March 6th. These financial reports detail where your campaign had received contributions and where your campaign has utilized these contributions.
